A number of our clients have yet to receive their 2020 tax refund. We understand the frustration, and wish we were able to help. Unfortunately, the situation is out of our control. We have edited the following article from the LA Times which explains some of what is going on at the IRS. It has been edited for brevity.
Earlier today, the IRS announced that it will begin accepting tax returns on February 12 this year, which is around 2 weeks later than usual. The delay is caused by personnel shortages due to the pandemic, as well as the stated need for additional programming and testing of IRS systems following recent tax law changes - mainly those involving a second round of stimulus checks.
For our clients with appointments before February 12: We will work to complete your taxes in a timely manner as usual, but just be aware that we will not be able to file your returns until the 12th. We will update this page if the IRS makes any further announcements. Dear Clients,
Happy New Year? I think most of us are ready to say “Good riddance!” to 2020. We made it through, despite everything, and hope that you and your loved ones have weathered the storm. We will be seeing clients in the office this tax season. We are following safety protocols, with masks and distancing. Additionally Ron has installed plexiglass between his desk and the clients, to aid in separation. We will also be offering the option of meeting via teleconference, if you prefer. We encourage you to make your appointment right away, even before you receive your tax documents. We have appointment availability the following times, starting on Feb. 1st: Monday - Thursday 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Friday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Full article @ IRS website: IRS Urges Public to Stay Alert for Scam Phone Calls
The IRS continues to warn consumers to guard against scam phone calls from thieves intent on stealing their money or their identity. Criminals pose as the IRS to trick victims out of their money or personal information. We take the security of your personal information very seriously. Our office is under 24/7 video surveillance. In addition to locking our office when we leave, the wing that contains our suite is also secured after hours. On weekends the building is secured with locked gates. Within our office, the file cabinets are in a room that we lock when we leave. The cleaning crew does not have a key to this locked room.
